We’ve enjoyed Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. But today is, perhaps, the most important named day of the holiday season: it’s the second annual Giving Tuesday. The goal of Giving Tuesday is to create “one powerful national day of giving, raising funds and awareness for important causes everywhere.” Ladies’ Home Journal’s Virtual Toy Drive is a very easy way that you can participate in Giving Tuesday with a simple click of your mouse.
Ladies’ Home Journal has partnered with generous sponsors – Build-A-Bear, Lego, LeapFrog, Hasbro, Scholastic, Walgreens and Disney – will each donate up to $5,000 worth of gifts to kids in need through the Toys for Tots organization. Every day from December 2nd through the 8th, Ladies Home Journal will highlight a hot holiday toy curated by mom bloggers – including my friends at Extraordinary Mommy, Mom Generations and me! – and gather likes to raise awareness for the virtual campaign.
Virtual Toy Drive for Toys for Tots
“We’re thrilled to partner with Toys for Tots to help raise donations this holiday season,” says Sally Lee, Editor-in-Chief of Ladies’ Home Journal. “It’s estimated that 16 million kids might wake on Christmas morning without presents and we want to change that. Our virtual toy drive allows our readers and fans to participate from anywhere and make a child happy with one click of a button.”
The Toys for Tots organization is one of our favorite charities. It was started by the U.S. Marine Corps Corps Reserve and has grown into a huge nationwide effort to collect and distribute toys to children in need.
Get Involved! To find a “real” toy drive or to find volunteer opportunities in your area, visit the Toys for Tots webpage. There are several collection bins at our BX on base and I’m excited to take the kids to shop for toys to donate. It’s a simple way to teach them the importance of giving back – and it’s a great way to honor Giving Tuesday.
