Happy New Year!! I feel like I keep repeating myself but I can say with complete sincerity, I can NOT believe it’s 2014 already?! Wasn’t I just dating my high school boyfriend and thinking about where to go to college, like, yesterday?! I mean…this really goes to show us all that time just won’t stand still. So here we are….a new year with new beginnings! I truly hope your holidays were filled with joy and your 2014 is off to a bright start!
Ava, Curt and I spent time in Pennsylvania over Christmas and while it’s just always great to go home, there’s usually so many activities packed into that short amount of time and we leave there feeling exhausted! This year, however, we got smart! We returned home a few days before school started so we could really adjust to being back on our normal schedule and routine. So far, this decision was a great one!
And now, onto the clothes! I’m here in my boyfriend jeans and if you’ve been following along with me here and over at The Northeast Girl, you’ll know that this isn’t their first rodeo. Girls, I really think the BF jean has so much more life in them and we’ll surely be seeing this style denim a lot again this year! Why, you might ask? Comfort (+ style!), of course! There’s also more cuts and colors of this jean than you could ever really imagine. I have skinny BF jeans…distressed, light wash, dark rinse, cropped, cuffed…and that’s just the beginning. You find what works for you and you’ll never look back.
So, the pair I’m wearing today is extra relaxed with a little bit of distressing on the side. I felt like with a month straight of wearing tights, skirts, and dress pants at work and holiday festivities…these jeans were the perfect break I was looking for to rediscover my casual and relaxed wardrobe while on vacation. I wanted to feel as comfortable as possible but still maintain my shape so I made sure the belt kept my waist defined and slim. I absolutely love black and brown together because it’s usually unexpected and they really compliment each other so well. My leopard booties also have a hidden wedge which helps elongate my legs but mostly importantly keep my feet comfortable! The wedge is always the way to go when looking for heels that don’t hurt.
This leather jacket was probably one of my most favorite investments I’ve made this season. I wear it ALL THE TIME and the mixed materials made it stylish, on trend, and affordable. It’s also a great way to keep my top half from slim as opposed to the looser fit that my jeans have going on. Keep proportions in my mind when you’re wearing loose or baggy clothing. You generally don’t want your clothes to be hanging off of you from head to toe! A little goes a long way and if I’m loose on top, I’m fitted on the bottom (…and vice versa).
Before I head off, I started off 2014 with a new pair of sunglasses that I have been watching for over a year! I mean, what better way to spend that Christmas money than on something that you’ve thought about for 12 straight months?! I know not all sunglasses work for everyone BUT what I will say is this, if you’re debating some new suns this year and can’t decide whether you want a black pair or a brown, my advice to you is this: buy the tortoise colored pair! Tortoise is so classic and it will always, always, ALWAYS match your outfit. If you’re wearing black, brown, pastel, neons, neutrals, and so on….tortoise works.
