Creating a baby registry is no easy feat. There are endless baby products and it’s nearly impossible to know exactly what you’ll need and actually use. We’ve narrowed it down to a few basics from buybuy Baby that you will definitely use in the first year.

  1. Go: Britax B-Ready Modular Stroller
  2. Eat: Stokke Tripp Trapp Highchair
  3. Bathe: Angelcare Bath Support
  4. Sleep: Levana Oma+ Movement Monitor

Levana Oma+ Movement Monitor

Levana is dedicated to keeping baby safety and as such the company focuses its efforts on only baby monitors. To make sure they are meeting the needs of families, Levana talks to real parents while developing their products. The result is a line of monitors that provide real-time accurate feedback on your baby’s movement.

The Oma+ Movement Monitor is a small monitor that clips directly to baby’s diaper and senses the tiniest of movements. Like all Levana monitors, the Oma+ is digital and wireless which eliminates any risk of strangulation.

The sensor will gently vibrate to help encourage the return of regular movement after 15 seconds of complete stillness and will beep loudly to alert you if no movement is detected for more than 20 seconds.

Not surprisingly, in order to function and not disrupt baby’s sleep, the Oma+ is quite small. We don’t have a baby in the house to test the Oma+ Movement Monitor, so I enlisted the help of a friend with a two-month old to use the monitor and give us her thoughts. Lucy says:

The Oma+ is such an uncomplicated, inspired product that stopped the temptation to poke my baby when he blissfully slept longer than usual. The best thing about it from my perspective was the fact that I could open the box, locate and press the “on” button, and use it immediately. No pages of instructions to wade through or multiple controls to decipher. As alarming as it was the first time, I also liked the fact that when I removed it to change my son’s diaper, it vibrated and beeped after the promoted times which reassured me that it was definitely working!
