In the heat of summer the idea of a fitted top is just more than I can bear. It sounds downright dreadful, actually. And, while many people are working on their bikini bods, I have been practicing the art of eating ice cream. The combination of the warm weather and me not feeling my best means loose fitting, comfortable tops are the way to go. Luckily, with J.Jill tops I don’t have to abandon my sense of style (or love affair with denim) to accomplish an easy, breezy look for summer.
The J.Jill painted desert inspired summer collection features a mixture of tribal and ikat prints in a neutral color palette. The gauzy and easy to wear lightweight fabrics are simply made for summer.
First up is this Graphic Button-Front Sleeveless Top. I love how it looks online with white pants so I paired it with white girlfriend denim. The white backdrop lets the papaya, flax and light brown geometric pattern take center stage. It’s a very lightweight material and definitely requires a tank or cami underneath for coverage. I’m wearing it here with wedge sandals but I could swap out sandals or flats for daytime errands with the kids.
The fit of the shirt is perfection – the slight v-neck and darted bust are great along with the sleeveless silhouette. I think it’s pretty flattering for a flowy shirt.
Next I’m sharing the Mesa Embroidered Top, a lightweight white top with a boat neckline and intricate taupe embroidery. It’s a boxy shaped top so I paired it with more fitted jeans. (The jeans are far less summer friendly than the top, but it really didn’t look right with a loose bottom.) I really like the detail on the top so I’m going to keep shopping my closet for a complimentary pair of pants or skirt.
