smoothie recipeWe interrupt our usual Saturday Sips for a healthy resolution-inspired recipe roundup! (Tis the season for bright mornings and booze-free nights!)

I’m not a breakfast person… Never have been. If I eat a piece of toast or a few bites of a muffin, I consider it a triumph. I’ll drink coffee from the moment I wake up until the minute I’m ready for lunch (and, yes, I’m usually ravenous). But food, yeah, it rarely touches my lips before noon.

Of course, in typical mom-fashion, I make my kids big breakfasts every day–waffles and pancakes and eggs and turkey sausage and toast and fruit salad and yogurt…and, you name it. “It’s the most important meal of the day,” I’ll tell them like I’m a clichéd broken-mommy-record. Nag nag nag.

I should really practice what I preach. I wake up exhausted and spend most of my day sipping caffeinated beverages. I don’t eat enough fruits and I’m probably lacking some essential vitamins and minerals. I want to feel human again…

Don’t tell anyone, but I recently started going to the gym every day. That’s a major accomplishment for me, and I feel a significant difference in my energy levels. I don’t know if it’s the actual exercise or the fact that I’m getting out of the house and taking a break from my usual cycle of parenting and working. Either way, I’m liking how I feel… and so I’m ready for the next step in my quest for energy.

And so here I am with my nifty NutriBullet (which has sadly gotten little use until now). I’ve got a fridge full of produce, a freshly cleaned blade, and a whole lot of motivation. I’m excited to kick off the New Year with a new attitude and a new roster of breakfast smoothie recipes to try! I hope my kids will be into them too!

Lauren, thank you for these yummy ideas of smoothies, I love them very much. And I love to eat salads as well, and you know, one day I decided not to eat my salad but to drink it, So I made a smoothy out of the veggies, as a result my husband and me had difficulties drinking it because of the consistence. So I learned that it’s better to eat salads, not to drink them.
