Trying to spice up your nightly dinner menu? I’ve been getting spices and recipes delivered monthly to me through an awesome subscription box company called Raw Spice Bar.
It’s so easy to get in the habit of making the same go-to recipes over and over. I’ll be honest, my menu was on repeat for too long and, while I love my favorites, they were getting old, and we needed a change.
Raw Spice Bar provides small-batch ground spices and 3 recipes inspired by global cuisine delivered monthly to your mailbox. The recipes are created by top chefs for home cooks. Each month’s package is inspired by a new place around the world. For only $6 a month you can get spice kits delivered directly to your door and cook flavorful global dishes in your own kitchen.
One of their recent spice packages was The Malaysian Spice Box. I made 2 of the 3 recipes with the spices that are included. The Sambal Oelek (a spicy paste) and their Malaysian Laksa.
Opening each spice package each month is always exciting. Where will the focus be this month? What delicious recipes will I get to try? The spices are all high quality and freshly ground to offer the best flavors.
Each spice packet tells a little bit about the spices and flavors to expect. All of the spices are vibrant and flavorful and offer a creative punch in the kitchen.
The Laksa broth was so flavorful. You cook chicken thighs in the soup and then add in pan seared tofu and veggies. Shrimp goes in last and serve it all over a rice noodles or rice. The Sambal Oelek adds just the right amount of spice without being overpowering.
We ate with our chopsticks and then slurped up the soup, yum!
We love a good curry dish so my husband I were excited to try the Malaysian Laksa. The lemongrass and citrus flavors in the spice packet really added levels of flavor to our laksa. I like that each spice packet is perfectly proportioned for making a meal and I don’t end up with cupboards full of spices that I’ll only use for one or two recipes but will go stale before I can use them again.
The recipes are kitchen tested by professional chefs and offer easy to follow instructions, ingredient list, culinary history of the region and bonus tips. All you have to do is shop for the ingredients and start cooking.
Raw Spice Bar is such an affordable option for a gift idea for your favorite home cook. We really enjoyed our Malyasian Laksa and had lots of leftovers that were even better and more flavorful the next day. I can’t wait to cook with my next pack of spices from Raw Spice Bar!
